What We Do

Our Story

I dream of a better Haiti, a better Fond-des-Negres where everyone can live a life worth living.  Unfortunately, this worth living life does not come on its own, people must work for it. Over the years though personal activities and through our organization, (OADF) Organization of Action for the Development of Fond des Negres put together by a group of Fond-des-Negres natives and friends, we supported financially small projects of development such as sponsoring children to go to school, planting trees and several other activities.

On September 2021, taking a leave of absence from work, I went to Fond-des-Negres and stayed there for about a year. I didn’t have the financial means to do much, but I was able to do some tree planting. I returned to the US very determined that there is a lot that needs to be done in the community and that if we the ‘Fond-des-Negrois’ can get together, there’s a lot we can accomplish. One of our old adages says “Men anpil chay pa lou” (many hands make the burden light)

Our Mission

A strong desire to create a better life in Fond-des-Negres where the inhabitants have the basic needs such as drinkable water, cleaned and paved roads, good public sanitation, green vegetation and much more.

In the middle of the 21st century we’re still living in the most archaic way of life when it comes to drinkable water, sanitation, road, electricity, etc… Our passion is to change that.

IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS I WOULD LOVE TO WORK ON:

Paved Roads: We don’t have paved roads in the whole of Fond-des-Negres besides the national road passing through the city. When it rains, we have a lot of mud to deal with. When it’s dry, we have a lot of dust to deal with.

Potable water: Thanks to the organization ‘Water for life’ there are some water pumps in our area, but not enough and people are obliged to go to the river to get water that is polluted with all kinds of impurities.

Electricity: Hard to imagine that in the middle of the 21st century a lot of people maybe in the world live life without the benefits of electricity. We are among these people, and I wish that could change.

Sanitation: Lack of good sanitation is the cause of many diseases such as cholera that kills many people. Many lives can be saved if we act.

Library: As it is said: ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’. In a community where probably 99% of the population does not even have access to a computer, having a library that makes computers accessible will make a big difference.

Tree planting: The cutting of trees for all domestic uses, has already changed for the worse, the climate of Fond-des-Negres and we need ways to reverse that.

Sport fields: We all know the importance of sports and amusements in the lives of people. I will again repeat this saying ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ and sports/amusements is a good way to accomplish this.
